Moses Tewksbury Bass (1844)
Here are some before and after pictures of a Moses
Tewksbury bass from 1844. |
Notice the extreme
angle of the bass bar. I decided to keep the bass bar, but I did
reduce it to a normal size. |
Also, the rib
were rabbitted into a grove in the top. |
This was a typical
construction method of the time, especially since Tewksbury worked
in Prescott's shop for a few years and Prescott did this on many
of his instruments. |
This would make
the top extremely difficult to remove and was a construction technique
that was eventually abandoned. |
I thinned out
the edges of the top to remove the rabbit, added new spruce and
recarved it back to its original shape. |
